Be God's Spice of Life

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Renee and I were out to lunch one day and I had a bowl of soup for my meal. I had never eaten this restaurant’s soup before, but as I took my first taste I wasn't pleasantly surprised. It was really bland tasting. I did what I think most people do: I added some salt but that didn't help. Then I added a little pepper. Still no improvement. So, I started grabbing whatever I could to spice it up.

Sometimes the world around us can feel that way—like a bowl of soup that isn't very tasty and needs spice. You can be that spice! As a matter of fact, God's word exhorts you to be that spice. Colossians 4:6 (NIV) says, "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."

You are the one that can help them experience a touch from the Lord by bringing someone into the saving knowledge of Jesus. You are the one that can be led by the Holy Spirit to bring hope and prayer to the hurting, lost or discouraged. 1 Thessalonians 5:11) NIV) says, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” This is the Apostle Paul’s way of saying to you and I, “Spice up each other’s lives. Give them a taste of Heaven here on earth!"

One day, Jesus will renovate this earth and live here to rule and reign. Life will truly be glorious in that day and need no additional spice. But until that time, our God-given destiny is to be the spice in life this world so desperately needs. So... “Pass the Jesus, please!”

Isaiah 50:4 (NLT) "The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will."

Do You Understand That God Wants to Use You! Are You Ready?

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Do you believe God wants to use you? Do you believe the Holy Spirit would prompt you to help someone know Jesus? The following verses share a story of just how God will use a yielded vessel.

Acts 8:26-38 NIV “Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his justice was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth. And the eunuch asked Philip, and said, I pray you, of whom speaks the prophet this? Of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what does hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, if you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”

This Ethiopian was a very influential man. He experienced this personal touch from God and it changed the entire course of his life. Because of this man's influence as treasurer under the queen, his life most likely then touched the lives of countless others. This story is the demonstration of the power and intimate effort on God’s part, to use someone who knows Him (like you or I) to help another get to know Him. God loved this man so much that He spoke to Philip to go out to this desert place. Would God help you be used like this in some way? What a phenomenal and exciting thought and the answer is YES!

I was touched by God's love that way 37 years ago at the age of 24. As I was working on an airplane, I met a woman who seemed to shine. There was something different about her. She had a genuine kindness and peaceable way about her. I told her there was something different about her and asked her what that was. What she shared, pierced my heart. I was one looking for answers to life and was hungry to know the truth about God if that was possible. Prior to meeting this woman, I had been saying in my heart, God if you are real, help me know you. I had so many questions. A short time later, along comes a gal who had the answers and was willing to share them with me. That was the beginning of an entire new life that has led me to where I am today. I was like that Ethiopian man.

Last Wednesday a man who was from India walked up to me. He had heard some things I had been saying about God in a conversation with someone else. He wanted to talk to me. As we began to talk, I could sense that he didn't know the Lord. I asked him if he knew of God’s love and assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ. He didn't. I shared the love of Jesus which he was hungry to learn about. He prayed right there to receive Jesus into his heart. You could almost see an immediate transformation in his countenance. I had a Bible and some little mini-books about living a new life in Christ in my car. I went and got them to help him get started in this new journey with Jesus. I always keep those important tools close by. I invited him to church. He came and over the next year, turned his entire life around. He later told me that our meeting that day had to be God’s doing because he named about three unusual things that happened that put himself in front of me. THAT IS GOD’S LOVE!

I think and pray often about God using me to help someone know Jesus every day! I pray that I'll be as faithful as Philip was. I pray Psalm 2:8 (KJV) "Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance..." And I pray for you, my readers! I pray that each of you will be willing vessels to share His love. We are surrounded by people searching for the truth of God in the midst of a world filled with darkness and confusion. I don't get stuck trying to help those that don't want to know. There will be a time when they are ready. I move on to those that are looking to know the Lord now! There is an entire harvest field of people looking to know the Lord in your world around you. You don't know who they are but they are there! You might be the very vessel God desires to use to introduce Himself to someone who's searching in their heart. The Holy Spirit is ready to use you. Are you ready to be used? Pray, ask the Lord, and then pay attention. There are spiritually hungry, desirous to know the Lord who are ready to listen and open up their heart to you!

“1 Peter 3:15 “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

Developing Intimacy With God

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

I love having intimate time with the Lord. Sometimes that happens in the middle of the night when I have awoken and can't fall back to sleep. Instead of fretting over a loss of sleep, I read my bible, pray and spend time thanking God for every good thing in my life—and for the grace to get through the coming day! Not only is that time special, but in short order, it brings me  to where I can fall back asleep.

I have many places and times and atmospheres where I have intimate time with the Lord. Each Spring after the snows melted and everything comes back to life, I create a couple of quiet places in my garden where I can sit and spend time with Him. Frankly, I can turn just about any place into an atmosphere of intimacy with Him. I can because I've learned how important it is to be able to pause and bring Him into every situation.  1 John 5:13-15 (NLT) "I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may KNOW you have eternal life. And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him. And since we know He hears us when we make our requests, we also know that He will give us what we ask for."

I read His Word expecting God to speak to my heart  through the scriptures in a relevant way. I pray the promises He reveals in His Word with great confidence, knowing that Heaven and earth will move because God is faithful! And these verses from God produce great confidence and intimacy in me.

Like anyone, I can have those moments where I want to experience intimacy with God but my mind is too preoccupied with the all that is going on around me. In those busy moments my time with God and in prayer could easily feel one way. Years ago as a younger Christian, I might have panicked and thought, What’s wrong? Why am I not feeling God’s presence in the same way. Did I do something wrong? God are you mad at me? Am I out of Your will? and on and on. In those times, I'm usually so preoccupied the demands of life that I'm only half focused on the Lord and not really with Him and Him alone! You know what I've learned to do in those times? I've learned to have momentary escapes—even if only for 5 minutes. I've learned to go into a bathroom or some place alone, close the door, and lift my arms in worship to God. Having even just a few minutes alone telling Him of your love and your confidence in His love toward you, helps bring intimacy!
As I matured in the Lord, God's word became my truth and anchor. It kept me from drifting because of erroneous feelings. Feelings are so fickle. Good or bad, they don't last and can't be allowed to direct your life! Now I know better. God never leaves me. He never forsakes me. To the contrary, His word teaches me, “Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.” (James 4:8) When we purposely draw near to God with the promise of Him drawing near to and speaking to us, then we have to remember the primary way God speaks to us. He primarily speaks to us through His Word. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He taught the to pray,  “Give us this day our daily bread…” He was not teaching them to pray for food or provision. He was teaching them to meditate on the scriptures—His Word, and listen for the Word of God to speak to their hearts each and every day. Why? Because we need help, direction, correction, peace, and a power boost from the Lord every day or our lives. That is what the Word of God is to us! Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Do you need wisdom? Do you have a problem? Are you feeling discouraged? Are you hungry to know God more intimately? How do you think He is going to address those desires in your heart? Through His Word! That's how He leads you. That's how He corrects and instructs you! That's how He leads you into the miracles you'll experience in your life. It's through His Word rising up in your heart, that those personal, special, and intimate times come.

So even when I am in the grinding-it-out times during busy periods in my life, and may not be feeling any of the goosebumps of intimacy I'd love to sense when I am spending time with God, I have no doubt that the Lord is with me. I have no doubt that He hears every word, and that He appreciates that I live by faith and not by feelings. He never changes and I cannot let feelings dictate my faith. I let faith dictate my feelings.  And so, as I did today, I will continue to sing to Him, pray, and meditate on God's word and great love for us. And I'll continue to pray for you all! I know God hears my prayers! Spending time with God is special whether it feels intimate or not and whether I get goosebumps or not. It's simply great to spend time with the Lord! And because I see it that way, it is intimate!

Psalm 73:28 NLT “But as for me, how good it is to draw near to God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things He does.”

The Layman's Ten Commandments

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

The Layman's Ten Commandments
(Author Unknown)

Someone has written these beautiful words. Please read and try to understand the deep meaning of them. They are like the ten commandments to follow in life all the time.

1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

2. So a Car's WINDSHIELD is large & the Rear view Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.

3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.

4. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.

5. Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"

9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE.

Proverbs 1:20 (NLT2) "Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square..."

Is Your Love for God Passionate and Intimate?

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

I have been meditating on Jeremiah, chapter 2. It paints a picture of God's people being madly in love with God, and who would follow Him like a bride following a bridegroom. Even though it presented hardship, it didn't matter because their love for  Him was so strong. Jeremiah 2:2 (NLT) says, “I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness." But then something happened. God's bride began to drift from Him. Finally the Lord asked them the question, “What fault or sin did your find in me that made you stray from my love?”

Read it all in context. Jeremiah 2:2-7 (NLT) "Go and shout in Jerusalem's streets: 'This is what the Lord says: I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness. In those days Israel was holy to the Lord, the first of my children. All who harmed my people were considered guilty, and disaster fell upon them. I, the Lord, have spoken!' “Listen to the word of the Lord, people of Jacob—all you families of Israel! This is what the Lord says: "What sin did your ancestors find in me that led them to stray so far? They worshiped foolish idols, only to become foolish themselves. They did not ask, 'Where is the Lord who brought us safely out of Egypt and led us through the barren wilderness—a land of deserts and pits, of drought and death, where no one lives or even travels?' "And when I brought you into a fruitful land to enjoy its bounty and goodness, you defiled my land and corrupted the inheritance I had promised you."

I pastored for over 35 years. I led a Bible School for over 10 years. I've been writing Fresh Manna that has now been read in 218 countries, for the past 19 years. Over the years, I have heard many people say that what they've read in the gospels and in the life of Jesus seems so outdated and non-relevant for today. These words could only be spoken by those who have never really known the Lord, or by those who have drifted from God. And those words could not be further from the truth! Of course industrialization, science, and technology has changed much over the decades, but the truth is, people change very little! People still love and desire to be loved. They still long to know their purpose in life. They still long to have a meaningful life. They still struggle with the evil they see in the world and even within themselves. People still want security. They want to enjoy life. They want their families to grow up and be blessed and be at peace. These things never change. Technological advancements may change the functionality of life—how we live it out day-to-day, and these modern advancements and resources are eagerly sought after to make life easier and more interesting, but people at their basic core, still have the same needs and desires they've had throughout all time—the need for God's love and understanding of His purpose for each and every one of us. And the trust that He'll bring each of us into our own Promised Land. The world may flounder, but Christians should not. Don't stray from God to gain all these things by seeking for them instead of Him.  Or as Jeremiah said it, "They worshiped foolish idols, only to become foolish themselves."(Jeremiah 2:5 NLT)

In this day and age, to believe that Almighty God would intimately care for you and be involved in the details of helping you in your day-to-day life, to most, seems ridiculous. Christians that seek God because of their love for Him, and lean on and pray because they intimately know the depth of His love, and have experienced first-hand, His presence and help in the details of their life—they are surrounded by those who blindly think they are religious nuts or fanatics. They are anything but that! They are those who are truly experiencing the love, intimacy, and help of God that He so wants to give to each and every believer of Jesus!

As Christians living wholeheartedly for God, you'll always be surrounded by those who don't understand your very real and intimate love for God. There will always be those that mock your godly lifestyle and think you are self-righteous, trying to be better than everyone else. You know that's not true. You know better than anyone just how imperfect you are. You know that your faith is in Jesus—the one who died and paid the punishment for your sins, not in your own righteousness. But others won't see that until they seek God and come to know Him for themselves.

So the question today is, are you going to pursue things for pleasure and advance in your life to the neglect of your relationship with God? Are you going to let the persecution born from the spiritual ignorance of others deter your faith, passion, and the plan that God has for you? Jesus already warned us about this in John 15:20 (NLT) "Do you remember what I told you? ‘A servant is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you..." Persecution and the lure of stuff will always be before you! If you don't come to understand that these are the devil's devices, you will feel embarrassed when persecuted and frustrated when things to move along fast enough for you. These devices will diminish your love for God, eventually leading you astray. And God will one day ask you, What fault did you find in me that you trusted the world and yourself more than me?

God is calling to you today! His wisdom, instruction, and promise remind us, "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done."Philippians 4:6 (NLT) Live in His promises or you'll become like those without God who feel they have to lie and cheat and constantly breach integrity to get what they want. And this will diminish your love for God and eventually lead you astray.

Stay close to the Lord! Seek Him through His Word. Pray in faith about what He promises you—trusting Him in every step. And stay close in community and fellowship with others that love Him like you do. You know the Lord did nothing but love you enough to give you Jesus and be intimately involved in your life. So draw close to Him and He will draw close to you! He already has and is!

James 4:8 (NLT) "Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world"

In His love,
Pastor Tim Burt

Regarding Sexual Desires… Part Two

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

The world is utterly carnal—especially when it comes to sexual desires. It magnifies and aggrandizes their importance. It exploits the desires that were put in us by God for good and right reasons, and instead perverts them for reasons of exploitation, personal gratification, and financial gain such as the industries of pornography, prostitution, and sex trafficking.  The world takes advantages of good God-given sexual desires and exploits them at every level! Have you ever had to walk past a Victoria Secrets store in a mall?  The world twists and amplifies science and sexual abnormalities and anomalies of birth which are of the most minute percentages, in order to create acceptance of the perverted sexual desires of those who want no one to restrain them. The world works full-time to pervert and then normalize unrestrained and unnatural sexual desires—even legalizing them so that no one can restrain or speak against them. And now in the last two decades, but with more success at this present time than ever before, there is forced classroom teaching of perverted sexual instruction and information to children in the public school systems. This is what the world does with sexual desires and it affects every life on this planet in a negative way.  Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT2) says, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."

All of this reveals the level of man's thinking and behaviors without the input of God. Only the creator of man can define how, why, and what He created us for. And His reasons come from a throne of holiness and purity—something mankind hates and feels restricted by.

In general, to learn, understand, and to respond to sexual desires in the way God intended, takes Biblical education, prayer, community support of like-minded friends, and your personal effort. God throughout His Word, tells us to put off wrong behaviors and instead learn to put on the new man in Christ. He talks about being made new. He talks about being transformed by His Spirit and Word. He then reminds us not to go back to the former way we were. In a sense, He paints the picture of our new selves to hang on the refrigerator and look at multiple times daily! Let's take a look and see if that isn't so.

Hebrews 13:4 (NLT2) says, "Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery."

1 Corinthians 6:18-19 (NKJV) says, "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?"

Romans 1:25-30 (NLT2) "They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.  That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.  Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents."

Colossians 3:7-10 NIV says, "You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV says, "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

Our sexual desires have been exploited by the world but I promise you, God did not create desires and impulses within you that could not be controlled and managed. They can and were meant to be with the help of the Holy Spirit.

People who have constantly yielded to them, have been convinced they have no power over them. This is false and would only be believing a lie. As one who has given their life to Christ, you are a Christian and sin has no power over you. Once you learned this truth and begin to embrace it and seek God's help, everything will begin to change. Habits can be broken and changed. It's a part of the Christ-life that we just read about. He is not out to condemn you. To the contrary. He sent Jesus to die for your sins and help you discover your new life in Christ—free from the power of sin! God is always their to help you. He has no desire to condemn you. God wants you to experience sex within the framework of marriage and your sexual desires (when not magnified by the world) are just to give you enough drive to pursue the opposite sex. Everything else is a lie!

You are not going to get any help from the world in discovering and experiencing this truth. God's Word, sound Bible teaching, prayer, the community of the church and godly friendships are you support system. The world will always pretend to be a friend but will really be the person putting the needle in the addict's arm. You'll have to find separation but the Lord will show you how and help you do so.

And so, I pray that reading this two-part series has helped you learn or be reminded that you are a child of God. You are not out of control. Purity in sexual attitudes is God's will. And He will help you experience the blessing of it as you pursue Him!  And...

Ephesians 4:23-24 (NLT2) "Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy."

In His love,
Pastor Tim Burt

Regarding Sexual Desires… Part One

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Romans 6:13 (TLB) says, "Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God—every part of you—for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for His good purposes."

That's pretty straight forward isn't it? And did you catch the words "...every part of you...?"  That includes your eyes, your hands, your mind and imagination and so much more. You can't use them for sin. God gave them to you to use for good—for His plans and purposes.

It's seems polar opposite of what the world teaches today. The world wants to teach us that life is a sexual free-for-all where everything is okay and anything goes. 20 and 30 years ago, that evil looked tame compared to today. We are now just learning how far the devil and the world will take sexual immorality! The groups that want freedom from guilt and hindrance, to do any thing they want sexually, have bullied, name-called, sued in court, and used any and every means possible to enhance their sexual freedom. Because of that, the media is contaminated with profanity, perversion, and sexual free-for-all. Our children are now forcibly being spoon-fed perverted sexual information long before than have any capacity to understand it. And much of what they should never be exposed to at any age. The collateral damage that lies ahead for the future generations is incomprehensible. And it will lead many away from Christ and instead to a false religion where everything is tolerated.

An acquaintance recently informed me of being emotionally lured into a relationship by a supposed minister of God's word and married man. This man turned out to be a sexual predator preying on those he could on the Internet. Nobody is completely safe from being lured into emotional and sexual inappropriateness. Social media and the devices to view media upon today, make it easy to do things in secret. Having said that, nothing is a secret from God.

The path of sin is always destructive and leads to death. No one gets to call acceptable, what God has called sin. Fornication, adultery, and any forms of sexual immorality such as pornography and homosexuality will always be sin. We can't change that. But what we can learn to understand, is what God wants for us in life—understanding that the choice to follow His ways, leads us away from destruction and results in supernatural peace and joy, and His blessings upon our life.  Learning to turn from a life of sin takes prayer and seeking God—beginning with giving your life to Jesus Christ. It also takes the support and atmosphere of a good Bible teaching church. And then beginning the process of moving away from friendships that lead you down a wrong path, and instead making new friends that you can grow in God with together in a small group. Just thinking about this can seem like an impossible task to take on. I assure you it's not. Upon giving your life to Christ, God is there to lead and help you at every step.

James 1:21-25 NIV says, "Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does."

Men, God has such a higher calling for your life that what you can imagine. But He doesn't show us the full picture? Why? Because we'd want to short cut getting to the top and then we wouldn't have built the moral character it takes to live out the plan of God that He has for you.  That character is built through the effort it takes. Men, you are a sexual creature but not a sexual animal. God didn't give you a sex drive to be a curse to you. He gives you the power to manage it. He gives you the inner strength with the help of the Holy Spirit to make right choices and turn from wrong ones. That is a fact that you have to embrace. It will, in time, turn you into a sincere and godly man as well as a  a great husband, a wonderful father and mentor, and a godly influence to the world around you—again, over time! He will help you get there!

Ladies, social media can become a huge contribution to your feeling more insecure all the time. Why? Because you see people and things on social media that result in your comparing yourself and your life to others. You can easily feel you're not as beautiful or desired as the next girl, or your life is not as exciting as someone else's. It can make you feel that God is blessing them but not you. The truth is, God alone is the only one that sees every good thing in you. He made you. You are His daughter first and foremost. He is the one you want to live for. Don't let this world lure you into exactly what NOT to do. Don't post sexual pictures of yourself. Don't try to lure men sexually. Don't let the devil and the world lead you down that path. Don't be a victim of your less than perfect life. Instead know that every person and every life has ups and downs no matter what they tell you! Know that God sees you and is the only one that can love you perfectly and help lead you to the life of blessing He has planned for you. You only want the godly man who knows how to treat you with honor, love and respect and that God has for you.

Though sex is beautiful within the context of marriage, also know that He created it only for marriage. He put sexual desires with us to help lead us to the opposite sex so that we may build a godly relationship at the right time in life. Sex is not to proceed marriage. You only want to get married because you are in love with the person that God has planned for you to do life with, and because you will each help each other live life wholeheartedly for God.

That message is becoming lost to society but there are a few of us out here reminding you of God's intent and desire. It takes real heart change to get on this path. In doing so, I promise you that God will lead you, hold your hand, and help you every step of the way if you'll make your life and purpose about Him and the plan He has for you. Sexual desires have a small but important part to play in life in comparison to the big picture. The world wants to paint sex as the major issue of life. It's not. That would be a lie. Live for Him His way and your life will become rich in Him.  We'll talk more about intimacy, sex, and love next time...  About Sexual Desires… Part Two

Hebrews 13:4 (NLT2) "Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery."

Christians: Forgiven But Still Under Construction

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

When I was boy, the Ladybug was the one bug I would always love to pick up. They were not something we saw often. To me they were almost like finding a four-leaf clover—they were such a novelty. I’d always pick them up and let them crawl on me. I didn't like bugs but Ladybugs weren't like bugs. They were like cute little pets.

Then came along its look-a-like. I thought they were Ladybugs at first. I’d pick them up the same way. Then one day someone said to me, See all those spots on the wings and notice the larger white spots on the head? That’s not a Ladybug. That’s an Asian Lady Beetle. Ladybugs don't hang in groups and they are beneficial! They feed on plant pests. But Asian Lady Beetles are a pest and a nuisance bug that cluster in groups and feed on plants. And they stink if you crush them. I didn't pick up a Ladybug for the next ten years. I brushed off every one that landed on me—Ladybug or Asian Lady Beetle. Instead of learning to tell the difference between the two, I’ve treated both like a pest. What I have realized through this, is that my lack of knowledge of being able to distinguish between them, robbed me of the Lady Bug experience I would have shared with my grandchildren. I treated both bugs like they were a nuisance, when one was actually a joy! Not any more! Ignorance is not bliss!

The world does that with Christians. The media focuses on any Christian that has every been a poor example, whether it be someone ministering on television, or someone who calls themselves a Christian but has done something wrong or crazy. The world and the media try to paint pictures of all Christians being weird, crazy, or hypocrites. Forget the fact that people in the world get drunk or high, curse consistently, watch or participate in illicit sex, and will lie, cheat, and manipulate to get what they want. As a matter of fact, I've just described the average prime time television show. For many, those behaviors are their norm, and they could care less what others think! How can they be so hypocritical? They don’t profess to be Christians so they feel no obligation to restrain themselves from these behaviors. They just want professing Christians to be perfect, and if we make a mistake or blow it along the way, they blast that person as the devil incarnate and mock Christianity—just because of a few. Most Christians are good people. Most Pastors are good Pastors. Most television evangelists are Godly men that are not out for money. They take donations so they can reach more people with Christ’s love, and minister to the needs of the desperate like Samaritan's Purse headed up by Franklin Graham.  It's what Renee and I do through Tim and Renee Burt Ministries. We don't take a penny of the donations. They are all used for reaching the lost, helping missionaries, and helping the desperate in third world countries.

Being a Christian is a decision to give your life over to Jesus, be sorrowful for your sin, and to accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior. From that moment, it’s a life-long process of personal character transformation. People in the world don’t understand that. They just think, You say you are a Christian so how can you be doing that? You’re a hypocrite! They don't get that we are imperfect people that God is doing an ongoing work in.

Christians can become a victim of the Lady Bug/Asian Lady Beetle syndrome. They are all lumped together as being too difficult to distinguish good from bad. And so, the world tries to make us all look bad. They don’t understand the difference and so they blacklist us and write us all off. That has been a strategy of the devil from the beginning.

When you believe something strongly—when something becomes a true conviction and an anchor of your heart—it will guide your life. That's the Jesus life! That is why you better have your beliefs anchored in true knowledge and fact. You better not get swayed by the world’s perspective and criticism of Christianity or you’ll begin to be embarrassed that you are a Christian by the attacks of the world. They'll try to persuade you to they're right and get you to abandon your faith. It happens to college students daily when they begin to get attacked for being a Christian and don't know their faith well enough to articulate and defend it! When you become embarrassed to be a Christian, you'll pull back from your faith until you are backslidden and become an indistinguishable Christian—maybe even abandoning your faith altogether. The devil can't steal your faith, but he can deceive you through offense into forsaking it!

When someone ignorantly attacks Christianity, because of some Christian who's had an affair or messed up, be bold and set them straight—gently but with strength and moral fiber. Don’t you become offended. Be a person that is thankful of your Savior Jesus. Be a person that is thankful and bold to live morally and upright according to God’s Word. Remember, “The wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions.” ( Proverbs 28:1) Be the bold! Enlighten others lovingly, helping them to understand that Christians aren't perfect—just forgiven and under construction by the Holy Spirit working in them—for life! Know that most are like Lady Bugs even though there are some Asian Lady Beetles out there! And then do your best to model what Christianity should look like so they can't criticize you!

Philippians 2:15 (NLT) "... Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people."
