Easter: The Release of our Fears!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Renee and I want to wish you a blessed Easter as you reflect what His death and resurrection means to you! Celebrate Jesus. Celebrate Easter!

I was terrorized! I was nine years old, standing outside the principal’s office and waiting to be called in, for what I was not sure. It was the most scared I had ever been in my life!  The principal was not a nice person. She gave a lot of mean stares and always looked mad. She had disciplined, me slapping me across the face in front of the entire class a few weeks earlier for something I did not do. My teacher told her she had disciplined the wrong child and instead of apologizing to me, she gave me a dirty look and in front of the entire class said, He probably deserved it anyway, and walked out of the classroom leaving a teacher and 34 students shocked with their mouth open. Now here I was waiting outside her office again. To get pulled in for judgment before someone like this felt terrorizing!

Many people are afraid that this is what it is going to be like when they die and stand before God one day. They are so fearful about this that they don't even want their imagination go there. Is God going to play back the video of every inappropriate thought, word, and sinful action they've ever carried out in their life? Will He be thundering mad and push them down the express chute to Hell? Many people have built a wall greater than the Great Wall of China around those kinds of thoughts, pushing them as far back into their mind as possible. This terrorizing fear drives many to push the reality of God out of their mind instead renaming Him a concept, a myth, a crutch for weak people, or nonexistent, rather than think about and feel terrorized in their heart over the thought of one day standing before God for their life’s actions.

What I know and I hope that all of you know is that God is not like my less-than-wonderful school principal. God is God. He is merciful, patient, kind, just, holy, all-\knowing, all-seeing, and a thousand wonderful things more. People can mentally deny His existence and can push Him away or bury His existence in their mind, but, He is still God and He is still there. He is not evil. He is pure goodness. He has a plan that He has already executed and prepared for every person  the plan to stand before Him without fear. That plan is Jesus!

Jesus paid the price for our sins through His death. He paid the price enabling us to stand before Him washed and cleansed from sin  this out of His great love for us. The book of Revelation shows a time where all of Heaven is singing about this great love and what Jesus did for all mankind  for all who would believe. Rev. 5:9 says, “And they sang a new song with these words: ...For you were killed, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” God is not someone to be afraid of! He is someone to seek after!

Terrorists hate and take lives; not love and give up their life out of their love of others. God is not someone to be afraid of. An understanding of our destiny in Him is something to be desired. When we stand before God as believers, it will be to receive the rewards for being obedient to do the things He has taught us in do. That’s something you want to know about. Every little thing you do for God from a pure heart carries a reward. Everything! Your prayers will be rewarded, your right attitude and integrity rewarded, your good actions rewarded, and so much more.

That is why you want to know Jesus and understand how to walk out His destiny for your life. Standing before God one day is not a day to be afraid of or terrorized by. As a believer, it’s a day about encountering the God who loves you, and about a life to be rewarded! This is Easter! That is why Jesus said, "When that happens, rejoice! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven…” Luke 6:23.

The Birdcage - An Easter Story

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

The Birdcage - An Easter Story (Author Unknown)

One Easter Sunday morning, a pastor came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Several eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, the pastor began to speak.

"I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me, swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright. I stopped the lad and asked, "What you got there son?"

"Just some old birds," came the reply.

"What are you gonna do with them?" I asked.

"Take 'em home and have fun with 'em. I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time."

"But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do then?"

"Oh, I got some cats. They like birds. I'll take 'em to them."

The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for those birds, son?"

"Huh??!!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing - they ain't even pretty!"

"How much?"

The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, "$10?".

The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone.

The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free.

Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor began to tell this story.

One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting

. "Yes, sir, I just caught the world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!"

"What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked.

"Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other. How to hate and abuse each other. How to drink and smoke and curse. How to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!"

"And what will you do when you get done with them?", Jesus asked.

"Oh, I'll kill 'em."

"How much do you want for them?"

"Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you take them and they'll just hate you. They'll spit on you, curse you and kill you!! You don't want those people!!"

"How much?"

Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your tears, and all your blood." Jesus paid the price.

The pastor picked up the cage he opened the door and he walked from the pulpit.

John 3:16 (NLT) 16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Redeeming A Nation Under Spiritual Warfare!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

If you have ever seen pictures of a country or city ravaged by war, it is heart breaking to say the least. Everything is broken and beaten down from the buildings, to the infrastructure, to the people. It leaves a wake of destitute people.

Just because a nation hasn't been hit by a physical war, doesn't mean that it isn’t in the midst of a spiritual war. When there is a spiritual assault on any nation—the first clue that this is happening is that there is spiritual and moral confusion and chaos. Ultimately Satan works behind the scenes to confuse people over whom God is, and His plan of redemption, hope, and blessing for mankind. Satan accomplishes spiritual and moral confusion and chaos by creating the illusion and acceptance that there are many gods and many paths to God. His strategy is to create a false tolerance and acceptance of all religions accept the one true way to God which is through Jesus Christ. Jesus made it clear that there is only one God and one way to God—through Himself declaring, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)  And everyone should know that every religion believes they are the only way to God. So there is no real tolerance—just political correctness.

You can see spiritual warfare and it's nothing less than obvious! Christianity is persecuted while false religions are accepted. Satan doesn’t care about other religions because they aren’t real and aren’t a threat to him. To the contrary, the are a part of his strategy in leading people away from God.

When Jesus appeared before those possessed by demonic spirits, the demons trembled and cried out in fear at His presence. That is not recorded in history concerning any leaders of any other religion. Why? They were not God nor sent from God as Jesus was. And they were no threat to Satan’s plan. These demons were the ones who are going to one day be locked up with Satan up in the eternal lake of fire! When these demons were confronted by Jesus, they recognized Him as the true Son of God and cried out! Matthew 8:29 (NLT) "They began screaming at Him, Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”  The demons knew exactly who Jesus was! And they knew they have an appointed time before they will be locked up in the eternal lake of fire forever!

Satan’s plan continues by working to discredit God’s Word as the ultimate and final authority for boundaries, law, and moral position—leading us to the place we are at today—in moral chaos and acceptance of evil. Isaiah warned the nations that this day would come saying, “Destruction is certain for those who say that evil is good and good is evil." (Isaiah 5:20) When this happens to a nation, you know it’s a nation and people ravaged by spiritual warfare and totally confused about God, moral righteousness, and His love and desire for good for mankind.

God does not want you confused over who He is, who Jesus is, or over you becoming a child of God. He wants and has good plans for you! Jeremiah 29:11 NIV says, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” You can’t fix the entire world but you can influence it for better. You won’t do that until God influences you for the better. Jesus died, arose, and paid the price for your sins that you could be forgiven, become His child, and be blessed to receive all that God has for you. When you finally get hold of that revelation, you will begin to trust Him and His many promises to you. God says He has good plans for you. Satan would like you to think God has abandoned you—that He has left you high and dry. That isn’t the truth! Blessing has always been God’s intent for you and for anyone that would come to know and live for Him.

When you've become a child of God, your prayers are heard by God and become powerful and effective. James 5:16 (NLT) says, "...The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

There is only one way for a nation that has been spiritually ravished to be restored to its right place in God. That is by the hand of God through His people praying. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

As a Christian, God wants to be clear on who the enemy of your soul is, and the depth of His love which He has already proven through Jesus Christ. You were created to be a vessel of God in this earth to pray for our nation as well as the salvation of all mankind. You are not to be confused over the many gods the world proclaims. Tolerance is the showing of human respect for others beliefs, while love shares the truth that delivers them from living a life under Satan's deception. Understand where moral chaos comes from. Don't just accept it. Live for God and purpose to be a voice of clarity regarding it. As a child of God, pray with power and authority for your nation every day!  Our prayers are the only true hope there is! If you want to know how to pray for our nation, click here!

Psalms 33:12 (NIV) "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He chose for His inheritance."

Pastor Tim Burt

Restoring Your Relationship With God

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Something that seldom ever happens to me anymore, but that often happened to me prior to having Google Maps on my phone, was getting lost when going to a new location for the first time. Have you ever got lost while driving somewhere? There is something so dark about the feeling that builds within you when you are lost. That’s one reason GPS has become such a part of our lives. People hate the feeling of being lost! There is getting lost naturally—like when you are in your car. But there’s also getting lost spiritually—like you feel when you've wandered from God.

When I was young in the Lord and occasionally spiritually wandered off course, it was accompanied by an uncomfortable inner feeling. I didn't initially feel that dark feeling of being totally lost, but it’s like you know you are headed more in the wrong direction than toward God’s will and what He wants for you. When this happens I only know I don’t like it and want to get back to that right place with Him. Have you ever felt that way? My guess would be yes!

What have I done in times like this? I've started out doing what David often did. I've been honest with God about it. Psalm 119:176 (NLT) says, “I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.” I then cry out to God, Help me Father, I feel like I am astray from where you want me to be. Because I know Him and know that He loves me, I know He doesn't want me to remain a lost sheep. I know that He, by His Holy Spirit, will lead me back to where I need to be if I am sincere about wanting to be in the right place with Him.

Some simply want to get out of the consequences of the mess they have been caught up in. If their only regret is the consequences they are experiencing and not the sincere desire to repent for their wrong actions, God knows that and their prayers probably won't go higher than the ceiling. The Bibles says that "God resists the prideful but gives grace (His help) to the humble." He is listening to those who know and want to return to walking in His ways and His will.  An insincere heart will not lead them out of their troubles and from the state of being lost. A repentant heart will bring God's direction, grace, and strength to make changes that lead one back to the right place with Him. Isaiah 44:22 (NIV) says, "I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you."

When I've been in that place and prayed, I have, by faith, received God’s forgiveness and again, in faith, believed He was infusing me with spiritual strength to make needed changes. I've written them down. I've talked about them. I've confessed to others that God was helping me and I've followed through with a plan to get back to where I needed to be. The troubles created by wandering from God may not instantly be gone, but the sense of being on the right path with God will come. The troubled waters of the mess created will eventually calm.

That is such a glorious feeling! I've not only felt it, I've counseled others and watched them come out of a lost place. I've seen them begin to read their Bible again. I've seen them renew their prayer life. I've seen them join a discipleship group or some kind of small group to help them gain a sense of accountability. I've seen them start attending church regularly again. I've seen them commit to helping others. I've seen them treat their spouse and children better. I've seen them back on the path of God’s will again.

I've heard it said, "Prideful men will wander around lost to the point of ridiculous." I say, godly men (and women) will stop and ask for help and directions (from God) quickly and get back on the right path! It's His will and He is lovingly waiting to help you do so!

Psalm 119:105 (Message Translation) “By your words I can see where I'm going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. I've committed myself and I'll never turn back from living by your righteous order. Everything's falling apart on me, God; put me together again with your Word. Festoon me with your finest sayings, God; teach me your holy rules…

Pastor Tim Burt

Hopelessness and Discouragement are a Curse! Give Them No Place in Your Life!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Over the years, there have been more than few times where I was thrust into the midst of discouraging situations. It seemed as though they had been designed to steal my hope. I have determinedly resisted allowing myself to ever become overwhelmed with discouragement no matter how bad things appeared. I did because in my heart, I know in Jesus, there is always hope!

Just like a fire might start with a spark to kindling, faith begins with a spark of hope! If you didn't have something to initially spark hope, you would have no hope. If you have no hope you are hopeless. If you allow yourself to come to the place of hopelessness, you've let go of the faith that would have brought God's answers, encouragement, and deliverance to your hardship. And this is exactly why the devil is bent on making you hopeless. He wants you to have zero faith in God. Remember, Satan too knows the scriptures and knows that God's word says "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

If the devil had his way, he’d keep you hopeless at all times. He’d beat you down in your circumstances. He’d beat you down in your walk with God, trying to make you feel shallow, buried under false condemnation, and feeling like you're embarrassment to God. (I promise you that you are not!) He’d beat you down in your imagination leading you to believe that the future holds nothing but darkness. If you don't know this, you need to! His full-time effort is to create disappointment in our life and drive you to a state of hopelessness. Why? When you allow yourself to become hopeless, he’s got you right where he wants you. Proverbs 13:12 (NLT) says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when dreams come true, there is life and joy (literally a refreshing that makes you feel alive again!) The devil is the author of death and destruction—the thief of all life. Jesus is the giver of abundant life!

People are pushed by the devil into negative circumstances, feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, and finally to the place of hopelessness every day. He tries to pluck every last ounce of hope from our heart like plucking petals off of a flower. He is quick to remind you of your failures but never reminds you of your achievements or successes—unless he can use them to lead you into pride! He points out your every flaw, but never mentions the transformations of maturity and character change that God has worked in you. He paints the picture of bleakness and hopelessness instead of the promise of God’s Word. This is exactly why Jesus came into this world—to dismantle the lies and deceits of the devil and to restore us to Himself, His mercy and His love. We see this in 1 John 3:8 (NLT) "...the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil."  Jesus taught us through His Word how to handle this enemy of your soul. Math 8:16 says that “Jesus would cast out devils with His Word…”
You do the same. Rise up and cast him out of your life now! Jesus would say to the devils, “Get out, be gone, I rebuke you.” You do the same in Jesus name!

Jesus always offers hope! His love toward you is tender. He is called the Blessed Hope. Jesus is the spark of hope that grows and fans your faith and that will ultimately lead you to God’s help and deliverance in your life. So, when you are feeling hopeless—it’s time to refresh that spark of hope.

First we need to understand hope. Romans 8:24-25 gives us insight. “…But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” Hope isn't seen. The spark of hope is what  comes from having faith in God's Word and promises manifesting in your life!

Then realize that Jesus, our Blessed Hope is calling out to you saying “Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:24 (NKJV)

He calls out to let us know He that has got His eye—representing His caring and compassionate and merciful heart, upon us! He says to us, “The eyes of the Lord are on those who reverence Him, on those whose HOPE is in His unfailing loveHis unfailing mercy.” Psalm 33:18

God's word teaches and reminds us that we are those who can have hope! His Word was written for that very purpose—to give and continually rekindle our hope in a loving God and Savior Jesus Christ, whose mercy is greater than your ability to live perfectly right before Him.

No matter what has transpired to discourage you, YOU ARE NOT HOPELESS and God has not abandoned you! Let these verses of hope spark your hope in the Blessed Hope so that you may be refreshed, have faith, draw courage, and see the hand of God deliver you again and again turning what the devil meant for evil, instead for good toward you!

Romans 15:4 “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. They give us HOPE and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.” (NLT)

In His Love,
Pastor Tim Burt

Life's Not Random. God Has a Plan For You!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Note from Pastor Tim:   Hey Fresh Manna readers, It's Renee and my 40th wedding anniversary in September. We'll be busy around that time so we are going to celebrate it early. I won't be writing and posting again until March 26th. There are literally hundreds of past posts to read that I am confident have not lost their anointing or ability to impact your heart. So happy reading and see you then. We will be praying for you daily! God bless you ~ Pastor Tim

I meet so many people who think their life is some random existence—people that doubt there is any kind of God-given plan for their life. That couldn't be more wrong!  God has a plan for your life that He greatly desires to lead you in. But, it takes strong faith to believe that. Do you know why? Because when you talk about a plan for your life, you are talking about the future—things unseen and things unknown. And they are exactly that! If they are unseen and unknown, how can you trust that a plan exists or know what that plan is? You couldn’t without the Lord. Only the Lord knows the future and the plan He has for your life!  Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) says, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart..." He set us apart for His particular plan!

Life planning can be fearful and intimidating because of the unknown, the self-doubts, and unsurety as to whether you'll be successful in getting to your desired results.

When you think of the word plan, you might think of a simple plan. Not too overly complicated—like building a plan for your day. You think of all the things you need to do: build a task list, prioritize its order, and then pursue it step-by-step. You may have set that up in your daily calendar or planner, or you have simply scribbled on a sheet of paper. Getting that kind of a plan has little risk and takes little faith. It's just a matter of executing. That kind of planning may be part of an ongoing bigger picture and plan. Then each day is a working part of a bigger picture. But, if it's not and you're just moving from day-to-day, without thought to where it’s leading you, then its somewhat random. It's more of a survival effort than any kind of a plan. And sadly, that is what far to many people's lives are like. And they don't know God has a much better plan to lead them in!

So why should you believe what I’m proposing when many would consider it nonsense? You should because the very nature of God and what we know of Him through His word, help us understand that to believe anything less is nonsense. God’s plan and planning is throughout the entire Bible.

Consider Romans 8:14 (NLT) “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” This verse is a part of other verses that say God doesn’t want us led around by fleshly carnal desires. They reveal that by receiving Jesus, we received His Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit has set us free being a slave to sin and carnality. And because of that, we can be led in our hearts by the Holy Spirit in the will and plan of God. And so, this reveals— God's children are let by the Holy Spirit. God isn't random and doesn't lead you to random.

Now let’s back up. Let’s back up all the way prior to God creating the world we live in. Imagine that before God ever created the world we live in, He knew every detail of every aspect of the creation and people He was about to create including every detail of every person’s life. And in that plan, His perfect will was putting Himself in your path where Jesus would be revealed to you with the hope you would make the choice to receive Him. From there, He would lead you by His Spirit into the plan He had for you. Does that sound wild or far-fetched? It isn't! God has had a plan from the beginning―before He ever created the world we live in!

Ephesians 1:3-5 (NLT) “How we praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we belong to Christ. Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave Him great pleasure."

Can you see that God has always had a plan for you? Before He created the world He had a plan for you. Let’s read further:

Ephesians 1:9-14 (NLT) “God's secret plan has now been revealed to us; it is a plan centered on Christ, designed long ago according to his good pleasure. And this is his plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided long ago. God's purpose was that we who were the first to trust in Christ should praise our glorious God. And now you also have heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us everything he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God.”

This is a devotion and not a book so I can't write volumes about this. But I hope today I have helped you see that life isn't random. Jesus wants you as His. That has been the plan from the beginning and God has always been working to lead you to Himself. When you receive Jesus as your Savior, He gives you the Holy Spirit to live within you and lead you.

He does have a plan that will unfold as you draw close to God and follow His leading. He wants to lead you in it daily. It will take faith and trust. It won’t always be clear and easy to see. It will take faith every day. But if you will have faith and confidence in this truth, you will being to experience it for yourself. Then simply ask the Lord to lead you every day. He wants to lead you away from random and get you to begin to think big picture. It unfolds day-by-day. Clarity of His plan comes through hindsight! You can look back and see all God has done! So, let go of the fear and seek Him and thank Him that He has a plan. And then pay attention! Watch as the Lord begins to lead you by His Holy Spirit.

Psalm 32:8 (NLT) “The Lord says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”

In His Love,
Pastor Tim Burt

Freedom, Peace, and Hope in a Dark World!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Imagine you had a friend sitting in jail serving a sentence. He'd been there for 10 years depressed and dreaming about what its like on the outside. One day, a guard comes to him, opens the door and says, The rest of your time has been excused and you are free to go! Imagine your good friend whom you've loved, prayed for, and often thought about, staying right there in that cell because he didn’t believe the guard—he thought it was trick. He couldn't wrap his mind around what the guard was saying and so he stayed there. I'd imagine that you would at some point, go to convince him that it was true and that he was really free.

In Jesus Christ, we have been made free! In John 8:36 NIV, Jesus said, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Many of those that listened to and dared to believe Jesus’ words were healed, delivered from devils, and were made free from condemnation through the forgiveness of sin. Freedom came to their heart because their eyes were opened to the hope, mercy and love of God toward them.

In Acts 3:7-8 NIV we see the response that you would imagine when someone had been set free by Jesus. It says, "Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God."

Jesus gave us His Word saying that it would become daily bread. Imagine that! Imagine a daily feeding from God that has the power to free us—to build our faith and heal us and to deliver us from the devil's lies, strategies, and strongholds that hold us back from living powerfully for Him. Imagine the Lord using you to be an agent of His anointing and power to those that would otherwise not be touched by God. Imagine others being freed and changed in some way because you shared the daily bread—the very words that empowered you from God's Word earlier in the day! I can tell you from personal experience—it's a Wow! One of the greatest ongoing experiences you could have!

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He said, pray this; “Give us this day our daily bread.” He wasn’t talking about praying for food or material needs. He was talking about letting God’s word come alive so that it could create faith in our heart for the day! His word was the daily bread they were to feed on! He wanted His disciples to develop a heart of faith like David’s, and letting the scriptures speak to their heart was the key to that faith as we see in Psalm 138:7 (NIV) "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me."

Jesus declared Himself the word of God. He declared that His Word was powerful and did it's work quickly. We see that in Hebrews 4:12 KJV, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." I love those words, "For the word of God is quick and powerful..."  The word of God creates hope and freedom quickly and that is powerful! It can lift us out of the darkest dungeons instantly because we believe it to be true! Without faith in its power, we'd remain trapped and depressed in our cell.

The world is not always a nice place and circumstances can get tough. Sometimes you can really feel trapped and discouraged in it all! But, you can be free from those feelings! You can let the Word of God speak the promises of His love, mercy, help, and grace to carry you through your day! God cares about every hair on your head and detail of your life. He does because He loves you! He guides you in your path, He directs your steps. He gives you the grace and wisdom for every situation. And He does that through His quick and powerful word! But, it starts with you believing and that happens by you having faith. Faith is built by hearing the Word of God and believing it! It’s what springs you from the dungeon Satan has tried to hold you in.  It is Jesus’ voice you are hearing that says, The rest of your time has been excused and you are free to go – only believe!

Psalm 91:2 (NIV) "I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Listening, an Anointed Tool of God!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

I remember in my first month of marriage almost 40 years ago. I was a very young Christian and a new husband. I wasn't very good at either. The second week into our new marriage, Renee and I had a quarrel. I was raising my voice at her and she started to cry. She ran off into the bathroom. I could hear her lock the door. I felt bad and asked her to come out. She wouldn't unlock the door. I pleaded with her but to no avail. I started to get mad again and told her to come out. She said No! Again I said, Renee, come out right now! Then she said, No, you don't love me, and you don't care about me—you don’t listen to me. It was there I began to learn that she interpreted listening as caring and love.

I went into the bedroom, got on my knees along side the bed and prayed. Lord, I don’t know how to be a good husband and I don’t know what to do right now. I kept reviewing the event in my mind but the Lord wanted me to stop doing that and instead be quiet and listen to Him. It didn't come easy but as I let the Lord deal with and teach me, He showed me how important it was to quit trying to try to be right but instead, focus on and listening with a caring heart. If I did that, swallowed my pride, and let honesty prevail, things would most always turn out alright.

He impressed me to turn to the verses 2 Timothy 2:24-25 (NLT) "A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth."

These verses teach us that arguing and fighting keeps their heart closed and in battle position. Wisdom comes from trying to understand their perspective—not trying to win the argument. It doesn’t mean that your right attitude and correct and kind attempt to work things out is always going to resolve every conflict. It won’t. You will always deal with a portion of people who respond more from their pride and ego than a right heart. James 1:19 (NLT) says, "My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."

People don't care how important you think you are or how right you think you are. They care about how much you care for them. Over the years, being a good listener has created more opportunities to be a blessing, than any other thing in my life. It has been the greatest tool of God into other's lives. It has because listening is one of the most important signs of caring which also translates as love.

The accompaniment to listening is showing the appropriate and honest reaction to what you've heard. That may be an apology. It might be a change of mind. IT WILL BE understanding their perspective and where they are coming from, and then working toward a win-win solution.

I have been trying to walk out this truth in my life from that day 39 plus years ago. It won’t always work but not because it’s not a godly and right principle. Sometimes I still stumble at walking this out. Sometimes it's them. You can’t control people’s attitudes and egos and unskilled behaviors. Conflict that doesn't end well always feels like yuk! But, you will at least feel better as you rehash things in your mind, knowing you sincerely cared and tried to do the best by them. Sincerely praying for them will help keep affection in your heart for them despite the outcome.

Show people you care by listening. Most will know you care and most will be blessed that you are a good listener that is kind and that does care. For the ones that won’t, they belong to God to deal with. You keep growing in your ability to love, listen, and care for others!

Philippians 4:9 (NLT) "Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. "

The Life-Changing Power of Sincere Love

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Do you think you ever give out fake love? What to I mean by fake love? Inside you may be feeling many things toward someone but love is not one of them. But, since you are supposed to love that person, even though you aren't feeling it, you give out your fake love, roll your eyes as you walk away, and talk behind their back later. That's what I mean by fake love.

Romans 12:9 KJV says these words: “Let love be without dissimulation.”  The word dissimulation in the Greek means let your love be without hypocrisydon’t let it be fake. Don’t put on a smile and pretend to love someone and then as you walk away, roll your eyes and later say something mean or cruel to someone else about that person. That's dissimulation. It's something that's done every day. Fake love which is not love at all, is given out every day. Other translations of Romans 12:9 say, “Let love be sincere.”

In my early years as a Christian, I thought giving fake love was just a normal part of life. I couldn't just say everything I was really thinking and dump on someone could I? Even those closest to you make you mad. If I would have let my mouth and feelings cut loose and always said what I was thinking, I would have constantly been in trouble. So my fix was, put on my fake smile, say the right things, and occasionally roll my eyes as I walked away. That is until the Lord began to deal with me a about this.

One day I was reading in the book of Romans when I read Romans 12:9. “Let love be without dissimulation.” Suddenly the Lord chastised me. He reminded me of a conversation with someone I had been upset with the day before. The Lord said, You put on a nice show but you aren't being sincere in your love toward him. You affirmed that things were great, but as you walked away, you were rolling your eyes thinking anything but that.  There was no argument from me. I knew I was guilty. I asked the Lord to help me be sincere in my love toward this person and others that got under my skin. He really taught me how simple it is. He said, “Tim, when you love people with your love, it is often measured by their behavior or getting want you want. He continued, My love is pure. It is honest. It is FULL of mercy. It is forgiving. It is patient. It isn't there one second and gone the next. It isn't looking for perfection of performance. IT COMES AS A GIFT! I don't love you based on your performance. I love you period! If you love people through my eyes and with my heart, you’ll find it much easier.

It was amazing how those words and that revelation transformed my life.  As I moved forward, the Lord would constantly remind me: Be sincere. No fake love. My love is greater than the moment. It's the relationship, not the temporary problem. I began to see my love run deeper and deeper and the circumstance or problem as just something to work through. Because people could literally see and feel the sincerity of my love, it changed even difficult situations. It increased my favor with them. They could sense that I cared more about them than the problem. People were so much more yielding in working through issues. I was finally getting God's kind of love across—a sincere love instead of my fake love in difficult moments—the kind of love He shows me daily! It was this that finally brought revelation and insight to Proverbs 16:7 (NIV). "When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him." My ways are pleasing to the Lord when I sincerely love people with His love!

Over the years, I have learned how important it is to let sincere love lead the way. Love precedes performance and expectation. It it didn't, you could literally lose your love for everyone because everyone lets you down at some point. I only succeed when my heart comes to every circumstance filled with mercy over expectation. Of course you want people to perform and act appropriately. And so should you and I. But we all blow it more than we'll ever admit to, and especially with God. If you understand the depth of His love and mercy toward you, then you'll run back to Him over and over again. If you don't, you pull back from Him thinking He is mad at you. If people detect your sincerity of love and mercy, they stay close to you. If they think your are disappointed and mad at them, they pull back from you. Sincerely loving—being full of mercy and having a willingness to quickly forgive, and having the humility to acknowledge your own failures in the very thing you could be upset at others over, helps you love sincerely day in and day out. Acknowledging the love and forgiveness of the Lord is what helps mercy to abound and precious and valuable relationships to be saved. Proverbs 17:9 (NIV) says, "He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends."
All relationships are valuable. Relationships are the primary way God reaches people. Relationships are the primary way God brings blessing into our lives. So, let your love be sincere. Let it rise up out of the same love God in His mercy and grace has extended to you. His love is unlimited and our love can be powerfully and deeply expanded!

Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT) "Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony."
