These past few years have made for difficult days for many people. If you are one of those people, you know what I am talking about. How do you keep encouraged while working through difficult times? How do you keep from feeling abandoned? I can only tell you what I have done and what I do when discouragement is working to become a stronghold in my mind.
Take the Apostle Paul’s counsel and be aware of the devil’s devices. Satan is the author of lies, attacks, discouragement and hopelessness. These things are not from the Lord. If they’ve become a stronghold, we are to take hold of the negative thoughts, fears, and worries that create strongholds and cast them down. 2 Cor. 10:3-5 reminds us, “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world (guns, swords, etc.) On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Imagine discouraging thoughts as muddy pigs walking across your beautiful wood floor. Grab a broom and scream and chase them out in Jesus Name.
In tough times, we often feel abandoned but we can learn from Jesus. Jesus revealed a profound revelation for us to take hold of and let encourage our heart. He said these simple but profound words in John 16:32, "I am not alone, for my Father is with me.” Why are they so profound? Because that is the truth that applies to us today. We are not alone, for our Heavenly Father is with us! This is why Jesus could go on to say, “In this world, you will have trouble. But, take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus has defeated Satan. If everyone seems to have abandoned us, WE ARE NOT ALONE! Our Father is with us! Can those become your sincere words of faith and victory today and tomorrow? Can you believe them? Can you believe that God has thoughts of good and not evil toward you to give you and a blessed future? That is His will for us. Your sincere faith in these truths break the back of the devil's attempts to discourage you. You are not alone. Your Father is with you! Thank Him for that and ask Him to help you see it to be true in your life today!
In His Love,
Pastor Tim Burt
