Fresh Manna 2008 by Pastor Tim Burt
Luke 10:21-22 "At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. All things have been committed to Me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him."
Do we have to be fully mature in the knowledge and things of God to be used of God? The answer is absolutely not. Jesus said in Luke 17:6, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you."
Now it’s important to understand when reading this that Jesus probably hasn't asked you to uproot a tree with your faith. The point He is making is that small faith is capable of great power. Faith is not the same as mental assent. Faith is a true heart belief. We just don't always know where our faith is at. Jesus rebuked His disciples on numerous occasions for that lack of faith, especially when they were doubting Him after they had just seen powerful miracles.
It's easy to believe that Jesus can do what He does. It's another thing to believe that He will use you to do great things in His behalf. But, don't let that stop you. He will use us - even when we are immature and young in the Lord. We just have to learn to respond to what we believe is His leading by the Holy Spirit and then do the best we can. We will make mistakes. If embarrassment and mistakes can stop you, then you will be stopped! Then you won't be used of God much. There is no easy way to learn to follow the leading of God's Spirit. You have to put your boat in the water and venture out by faith.
It was that same for His disciples. Jesus had finished teaching them about going out in His name. They went out and discovered that God used them. They saw the power of God work though their words, their hands, and their faith. They came back to Jesus excited like small children wanting to tell their daddy what they achieved. We can read what they said, reading from Luke 10:17-20. "The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name… "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the demon spirits submit to you, but rejoice that salvation is yours - that your names are written in Heaven."
Jesus was so thrilled that they believed in Him and trusted Him that He lifted His heart in joy to the Father in prayer. We see His heart and prayer in the next couple of verses which is also today's Fresh Manna verses. Luke 10:21-22 says, "At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. All things have been committed to Me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him."
When I was just a year old in the Lord, I started to learn about healing. I was like anyone. I was ready to go clear out hospitals. I found out that didn't work. We lay hands on those the Lord leads us to. Their will and their faith are involved. One day my little sister came over. She had an awful skin disease called eczema on her hands and arms that she had since she had been a child. I told her Jesus heals and that in His name I could lay hands on her and pray for her. I took her through verses in the Bible revealing Jesus’ will to heal and then asked if I could pray for her. She wanted me to. I did and then next day her hands were perfectly clear. It was a miracle. Praise the Lord. Now, it hasn’t gone that well every time I’ve tried to follow the Lord, but the important part was that I have tried to follow His leading and share His love and power. There have been many miracles over the years and I was just a young Christian at the time of many of them.
You don’t have to wait till you are perfect or perfectly mature for God to use you. The truth is you’ll never be either. Just read the Word of God – and watch Jesus in the gospels. Then be led of the Spirit casting aside fear and stepping out in faith. You might be the conduit of the miracle someone is asking Jesus for right now!
In His Love,
